ECE Alumnus Drives IoT Solutions Into Transportation and Smart Cities
Kamil Agi, Ph.D. has been chosen by Department Chair Christos Christodoulou as the ECE Department’s Alumnus of the Month!
Dr. Agi earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from NYU-Poly (Formerly Polytechnic University) in 1990 and 1992, respectively. He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Mexico in 1997.
As Chairman of SensorComm Technologies Inc., Dr. Agi identified IP and negotiated license for the world’s most sensitive NOx emission sensors to commercialize for the automotive and industrial markets.
He is President/CEO of K&A Wireless in Albuquerque, NM where his firm is creating next generation IoT-based emissions solutions that combine smart sensors, measurement and monitoring for the Transportation and Smart City Segments.
In 1998, he founded K&A Wireless to provide advanced technology solutions for firefighting, law enforcement and military. K&A’s wireless technology roadmap for first-responders has helped save thousands of lives.
Dr. Agi’s prior assignments include Research Engineer at the CHTM at UNM working on the DARPA HIDE Program, and a Consultant at MIT Lincoln Laboratory working on Ultra-WideBand Photonic Crystals.
He is a member of the Sensors and Instrumentation Technical Advisory Committee (SITAC) for the Department of Commerce in Washington, DC and has been a PI and a regular reviewer in the NSF SBIR program.
Dr. Agi serves on the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) Technical Committee on Electronic Safety Equipment where he is engaged in the management of the PASS Alarm and Thermal Imager standard and the development of the mobile radio standard for first-responders.
